Growing up in Baltimore, sports activities was a serious part of my life. The sports activities of choice for me and the other kids within the neighborhood back then were baseball and soccer, with basketball being a distant third. We often played baseball from April till the tip of Summer after which picked up with soccer in the Fall. Sports equivalent to tennis, golf, lacrosse, and swimming had been virtually non existent. Poor youngsters as a ‘rule’ did not play these sorts of games, they had been for the rich children. Golf clubs cost money, rather more than a baseball and bat.
